Steyr Nativity Stories
Guided tour for groups

Christmas without a manger is hard to imagine in our latitudes. The representation of the birth of Jesus with Joseph and Mary, ox and donkey in the stable is diverse.
On the tour "Steyrer Krippen G'schichten" the Steyr Austria Guides show interesting exhibitions and tell stories about the special features of nativity scenes and the art of nail forging.
The Christkindlregion Steyr has a long iron tradition, already in the Middle Ages iron was processed or traded with iron here. In the winter months, the nail smiths lived a meager life and earned extra money by building nativity scenes. Small baked clay figures ("Loahmmandln") were lovingly painted, positioned on a crib hill and placed in wooden boxes and closed with a glass pane. This is how the box cribs, also called nail-smith cribs, which are typical for our region, were created.
Nativity stations during the tour:
Board nativity scene in the courtyard of the town hall, Nativity tree in the town square, Lamberg's Nativity figures in the Palm House in the castle park, replica of the Steyr Nativity scene in the Christmas Museum.
