Welcome to Seeschloss Ort!

The Schloss Ort, picturesque located on a tiny island in Lake Traunsee, is not only one of the oldest buildings in the Salzkammergut, but it also has exciting stories to tell: such as the legend of the giant Erla, who is said to have built the castle out of love for the Traunsee nymph Blondchen. From the first historically mentioned owner, the knight Hartneid von Ort, to the cruel Count Herbestorff, and up to the Habsburg Archduke Johann Nepomuk Salvator, many colorful personalities have resided here.
Just like the actors of the German-Austrian television series "Schlosshotel Orth": For eight years, from 1996 to 2004, life, love, and weddings were filmed here. To this day, the series remains a strong crowd puller and attracts numerous visitors to Schloss Ort every year.
This was made possible by the municipality of Gmunden, which has owned Schloss Ort since 1995 and has since made it available to the public as both a museum and an event venue, as well as a sought-after wedding location. The restaurant “Orther Stub´n” provides the necessary culinary refreshments.
