From the Viehtaleralm, go upwards along the forest edge to the forest road, which you follow to the Menaueralm. Definitely plan time for a detour to the Schüttbauernalm. Refreshed, continue over the Sandgatterl to the Bodenwies (1,540 m). The trail then continues along the ridge and downhill to the forest road, leading back to the starting point.
Hiking trail: 495, 496
Directions:From the alpine pasture area of the Viehtaleralm, trail 495 leads beside the former ski slope along the forest edge up to a flat saddle. Then follow the marking along the forest road to the Menaueralm. From here it’s just a short detour to the idyllic Schüttbauernalm. We strongly recommend planning time for a stop there - excellent food with a wonderful view of the surrounding mountain scenery!
After the detour, the hike continues to the Sandgatterl and along the ridge to the Bodenwies. Continuing on the ridge via trail 496, you reach the forest road again and return to the starting point.
Tip:Enjoy the view of the Haller Mauern, the Gesäuse, the Ötscher, the Hochschwab, and of course the nearby Tote Gebirge.
