Lake Castle Ort

Picturesquely located on a tiny island in Lake Traun, Schloss Ort is not only one of the oldest buildings in the Salzkammergut, but it also has exciting stories to tell: such as the legend of the giant Erla, who is said to have built the castle out of love for the lake nymph Blondchen. From the first historically mentioned owner, the knight Hartneid von Ort, to the cruel Count Herbestorff, and up to the Habsburg Archduke Johann Nepomuk Salvator, many colorful personalities have resided here.
Similarly, the actors of the German-Austrian television series "Schlosshotel Orth" lived, loved, married, and primarily filmed here for eight years, from 1996 to 2004. To this day, the series is a major audience magnet and attracts numerous visitors to Schloss Ort every year.
The reason this has been possible is due to the town of Gmunden, which has owned Schloss Ort since 1995, making it available to the public as a museum, event venue, and sought-after wedding location. The necessary culinary catering is provided by the restaurant "Orther Stub´n".
