The baroque Alte Theater is quietly located at the entrance to the Castle Park, only a 2-minute walk from the Stadtplatz Square. It was originally a monastery building with church (1662). Its conversion into a theatre, actively encouraged by Count Lamberg, dates back to 1796.
Cultural events are regularly staged at the baroque Alte Theater, which is also an ideal venue for company presentations and medical congresses. The annual cultural highlight is the Steyr Music Festival during the summer months.
