Exploring the region on foot
This is the perfect place for hiking fans. The area has a good infrastructure but at the same time offers some beautiful unspoilt locations. And then you have the mountain cabins and inns to tempt you with regional specialities.
From easy strolls to tough trails
For those new to hiking and for families, there are walking routes that take you to inspiring locations, waterfalls, play areas and learning stations. There are also a number of themed hiking trails. Choose from adventure trails, wilderness trails, a Kneipp spa trail, a planets trail, food and drink trails and routes devoted to traditional crafts. More seasoned hikers can choose from one of the numerous mountain and summit routes or take on one of the long-distance trails. Or discover the National Park in the company of a ranger.
Discover the region on two wheels
Around Steyr and the Kalkalpen National Park, mountain bike fans will find plenty of routes that can be perfectly combined with summer excursions and activities. The Traunviertel route is a great way to immerse yourself in the spectacular scenery. The seven stages cover 460 kilometres at altitudes of up to 5,000 metres. The Trans National Park, which runs from Steyr to Johnsbach, is another classic ride. Equally attractive are the Enns cycle trail, the Krems Valley cycle trail, the Steyr Valley cycle trail and the Hintergebirge cycle trail. Beginners and casual riders will also find some great routes.
