Fair Play Rules for Mountain Bikers

Mountain biking is a thrilling sport and a great way to experience nature! It’s easy to get carried away and forget everything around you. Just keep in mind – you’re not alone, there are others using the same paths! Prudent and considerate mountain biking guarantees a safe accident-free ride. A few simple rules help avoid conflicts.

• Cycling and mountain biking in the national park area is only allowed from 15 April to 31 October, as of two hours after sunrise until one hour before sundown! The “Langfirst” mountain bike trail is an exception – here the mountain bike season doesn’t begin until 1 June.
• Cycling and mountain biking is only allowed on the marked paths and trails that have been opened to bikers. Driving bans and roadblocks also apply to mountain bikers.
• Be considerate of other trail users! Slow down when meeting walkers, hikers or equestrians and pass them slowly. If necessary, ring your bell.
• Avoid unnecessary noise and be considerate of wildlife and livestock. Only ride during daylight.
• Mountain bikers are only guests in the forest – behave respectfully towards landowners, foresters and gamekeepers.
• Ride at walking pace when passing by grazing cattle to avoid panic reactions. Very important – close all gates after passing through!
• Leave our natural surroundings as you would like to find them – take your trash with you!
• On all mountain bike trails the road traffic regulations (StVO) apply. Always ride responsibly and cautiously with other trail users and obstacles in mind. Your bike must be in flawless technical condition and be outfitted appropriately (brakes, lights, bell).
