Penknives were used for carving hearts into trees, cutting food and string, and were a popular gift for a young boy - In days gone by, penknifes were the indispensable tool of "ordinary people". The production of knifes is deeply rooted in tradition in Trattenbach near Ternberg. The process of tempering steel with 16 hammers to the perfect heat that gave a variety of 45 blades optimum strength and grinding a breathtakingly sharp edge were carried out here with great skill and expertise. This once thriving trade has left its mark for visitors to explore and enjoy: Feel the power of fire, water, wood and steel. Gather strength with hearty culinary specialties and roam about the water play land with your little ones.
