he Lynx Trail is a long-distance hiking trail with 11 stages through 3 internationally recognised large-scale protected areas and touches Austria's first World Natural Heritage Site. It leads through Austria's wild (forest) centre, which has repeatedly been awarded by the Alpine Convention as a pilot region for ecological connectivity.

The wild and romantic mountain landscape is probably the largest near-natural forest area in Central Europe. That is why the lynx was also reintroduced here. The trail draws attention to this endangered species and thus contributes to its protection and survival. The fact that the trail also leads through an extremely attractive mountain hiking area is a happy coincidence.

As a hiker on the Lynx Trail you are challenged! The stages are long and cover several metres in altitude. Your senses will also be challenged, as you will have to keep your eyes and ears open. But don't worry, even if you don't get to see the lynx: You will feel the presence of the wonderful.

Directions:
Lynx Trail Section 01 Reichraming-Anlaufalm    Entrance ticket to the wilderness: through wild forests and over beautiful paths into the Kalkalpen National Park and to the romantic Anlaufalm.   

Lynx Trail Section 02 Anlaufalm-Laussabaueralm    In the middle of lynx territory: through the lonely Hintergebirge to the rustic Laussabaueralm.   

Lynx Trail Section 03 Laussabaueralm-Admont    Back to civilisation: over the Haller Mauern to Admont with the famous Admont Abbey   

Lynx Trail Section 04 Admont-Klinkehütte    Back to Nature: Via the lonely Scheiblegger Hochalm to the sunny south side of the Gesäuse National Park   

Lynx Trail Section 05 Klinkehütte-Johnsbach    With a far-reaching view: Across the viewing balcony with views of the rugged Gesäuse mountains to the mountaineering village of Johnsbach   

Luchs Trail Section 06 Johnsbach-Gstatterboden    Worth seeing: Short valley stage to relax or on a more difficult spectacular variant into the Yosemite of Austria   

Lynx Trail Section 07 Gstatterboden-Mooslandl    Steep ascent: the traverse of the northern Gesäuse mountains via the Ennstaler Hut   

Lynx Trail Section 08 Mooslandl-Palfau    Varied: close to the valley along the wild Salza and through the Nothklamm gorge   

Lynx Trail Section 09 Palfau-Lassing    Hard work rewarded: grand finale in the Mendlingtal as the end of a long but beautiful stage or a shorter variant via the Moaralm.   

Lynx Trail Section 10 Lassing-Hochreit    Step by step into the wilderness: Lonely high-altitude hike past the Hochkar ski area into the Dürrenstein wilderness area.   

Luchst Tail Section 11 Hochreit-Seehof    Mighty final chord: crossing the Dürrenstein and through the beguiling lake valley to the final foot dip at Lake Lunz. Or after breakfast, you can be taken by shuttle taxi from Göstling to the Ybbstaler Hütte car park in Steinbachtal; this saves you just under 2 hours of walking time.

Tip:
 But so that you don't get lost, the Lynx Trail follows existing marked hiking trails and is also labelled. The Lynx Trail logo is usually attached as a 10 x 13 cm additional sign on the existing hiking trail marking. Sometimes only a sticker of the Lynx Trail logo is fixed on existing boards. Spray markings of the logo along the trail will also accompany you.
