The most significant civic building in the city at the town square can be described as the finest late Gothic building of its kind in Austria.
City Square 32. The landmark of the city is considered one of the best-preserved Gothic secular buildings in the country. Part of the building dates back to the 13th century. In the 19th century, there was the tavern "Zum Goldenen Löwen" (To the Golden Lion). Even today, the lion can be seen as its sign. Visitors to the tavern found this lion too charming and called him "Bummerl" (which means small, chubby dog). Thus, over time, the Bummerlwirtshaus became the Bummerlhaus.
