Altpernstein landscape conservation area
Micheldorf in Oberösterreich, Oberösterreich, Österreich
- Suitable for groups
At the center of this protected landscape area is Altpernstein Castle, which towers over the Krems Valley. The historic walls are the visible landmark for the protected area, which covers a total of 36 hectares and is made up of a wide variety of habitats.
The largest share of the area is taken up by forests. However, the great wealth of different plant and animal species is mainly due to large-scale rough grasslands and other meadow communities. Particularly valuable are the rough grasslands in some extremely steep areas, where numerous orchids grow. In addition to the meadow and forest areas, the protected area also includes a pond with marshy areas and even rock crevice vegetation in the area of the castle. Visitors reach the natural jewel via the access road to the castle or on a hiking trail from Micheldorf. This leads through the middle of the meadow landscape.
