Description:
This challenging full-day tour offers repeated vantage points into the Kalkalpen National Park, the Sensengebirge, the Tote Gebirge, the Haller Mauern and the Ennstaler Alps.

Trail number: E10, E11

Directions:
Before the hike over the Dürrensteig ridge to the Schüttbauernalm there is still the hike to the Ennser Hütte, which can be reached in two ways - either from the train station Großraming (about 3 hours) or from the parking lot Bamacher (about 1 hour).

At the Almkogel, the hike then begins via the Dürrensteig. Enjoy the view, far into the national park. The section between the Almkogel and the Langlackermauer offers the most beautiful panoramic view of the entire region: Kalkalpen National Park with the Reichraminger Hintergebirge and the Sengsengebirge, Totes Gebirge and Haller Mauern on one side, Ennstaler Alps with Gesäuse National Park up to the Ötscher and far into the Alpine foothills to the Mühl- and Waldviertel on the other side.

In the area of the Langlackermauer the tour becomes somewhat difficult. The wall drops steeply for a hundred meters, the path leads right along the ridge. Surefootedness and a head for heights is required here! In addition, the descent at the end of the Langlackermauer leads about 10 meters almost vertically over the rock, but a rope insurance is given.

At the Ochsenkogel it goes uphill one more time. Finally, a steep ascent leads to the Hochzöbel. From here the trail continues to the left to Leerensackriedel.

There you have the possibility to hike over the Bodenwiesgipfel. The shorter variant runs at the intersection at Leerensackriedel left down until you finally meet the end of a forest road. From here you can see the Menaueralm hunting lodge, the forest road leads directly there and continue across the pasture to the Schüttbauernalm.

Note: This day tour offers a fantastic panorama, but requires very good physical condition and is only suitable for experienced hikers. In addition, surefootedness and a head for heights are required!

From the Schüttbauernalm to the Anlaufalm you can expect another approx. 12 km, a walking time of 5-7 hours and approx. 650-970 meters altitude difference.

Tip:
Tip for a challenging two- or three-day alpine hike:

  • Ascent to the Ennser Hütte via Brunnbach, Gschwendtalm and Danzer Steig, an overnight stay at the Ennser Hütte, Dürrensteigkamm, an overnight stay at the Anlaufalm and via the Brunnbach back to the starting point.

  • Ascent to the Almkogel via Kleinreifling and Dürrensteigkamm to the Schüttbauernalm, an overnight stay at the Schüttbauernalm and via Bodenwies and Viehtaleralm back to the starting point.

Safety guidelines:
Beautiful ridge hike, partly exposed, therefore surefootedness, head for heights and endurance necessary!
