A wonderful circular route past churches and one of the most impressive castles in Upper Austria.
Via the Stations of the Cross, you ascend over the Georgenberg Saddle and over the Pröllerbild towards Altpernstein Castle. A detour to Hirschwaldstein (1,095 m, 50 minutes) is worthwhile, and downhill you pass the Zederbauer Chapel.

Directions:With the Georgenberg Chapel in sight, you march through the quiet village uphill via the Stations of the Cross. A detour to the church should by no means be missed – also for the beautiful view! Then you quickly hike to the Georgenberg Saddle. From there, a initially stony but romantic forest path leads over the Pröllerbild (wayside shrine) towards Altpernstein Castle.
On the forest road, you quickly approach the mighty castle built on steep rocks. From here it is worth climbing Hirschwaldstein (1,095 m, 50 minutes), as the entire ascent is safe and easy.
Downhill you pass the Zederbauer Chapel. You then stroll past the Reitergut Weißenhof inn back to the starting point.
Tip:Climate-friendly to the National Park Region - Micheldorf Train Station in Upper Austria: By train, you can reach the starting point for this hike in about 1 hour from Linz and about 2.5 hours from Vienna.
Safety guidelines:Adapt your routes to the current weather reports and act according to seasonal hazards in the terrain.
Equipment:Sturdy hiking boots, possibly gaiters, warm weatherproof winter clothing, hiking poles, possibly some provisions, warm drink
