Description:
It starts with an asphalt road, where after about 2.5 km you can turn right onto a hiking trail up to the Schoberstein. From the Schoberstein it then goes down again on the hiking trail to the Pfaffenboden, from there further on a gravel road to the Grünburger Hütte, then in the direction of Kruckn Brettl, where you then turn right down towards Trattenbach.

Directions:
From Trattenbach train station you start on an asphalt road, where after about 2.5 km you turn onto a hiking trail in the direction of Gasthaus Klausriegler. After about 1 km on a forest path you arrive at the inn (this has been closed since January 1st, 2023), then follow the path up towards Schoberstein. As soon as you see the Schobersteinhaus above, you can turn right up to the Schoberstein summit cross. If you don't want to stop off, you can go back down from the summit cross, just above the Schobersteinhaus and follow the path towards the Grünburger Hütte.

At km 7.5, where it then goes steeply down the Schinder to the right, it is worth making a short detour - straight ahead there is a small cross in a good 50 m, called "Gipfel der Lust" - here there is also a wonderful view of the Mountains.

Then down over the "Schinder" you get to a gravel road crossing, here simply follow the gravel road straight ahead in the direction of Dürres Eck / Gaisberg. Passing the Bernegger quarry, you soon come to a prominent crossroads again, here is the "Pfaffenboden", from here the gravel road continues in the direction of the Grünburger Hütte.

Arriving at the Grünburger Hütte, turn right onto a meadow path that soon leads into a forest, before continuing on a meadow in the direction of "Kruckn Brettl". Then, on the left, there is a distinctive 2-trunk beech tree with a sign saying "Trattenbach", which you follow down to the right. After approx. 500 m you will come to a crossroads, turn right here and continue to follow the forest road, where after a good 200 m a sign with "Trattenbach" on the right again points in the direction of a hiking trail into the forest - follow this and then keep going in the direction of Trattenbach . From about km 13 you come to an asphalt road, which you then follow down until you come back to Trattenbach.

Tip: On the way down to Trattenbach you can see a really nice waterfall on the left at a serpentine that runs to the right.

Tip:

  • Several places to stop for refreshments, after 2km at "Rudi" (Mitterhummer's Hofstadl), then at the Schoberstein and also at the Grünburger Hütte.

  • The Schobersteinhaus and the Grünburger Hütte both have a shelter where there are drinks even when the huts are closed.

Equipment:
The required equipment always depends on the particular tour and the weather conditions. Regarding the food: This is very individual and it is recommended to have rather too much than too little with equipment and food. For a 5km round in the valley you need less than for a demanding tour in the mountains. The weather can change quickly and if you are not constantly on the move or need to take a break, for example, warming clothing is of great importance.
