Shorter round starting from the sports field in Nussbach possible (12.4km/403m ascent)

Directions:

The route starts at Nußbach Station. At the beginning, you walk towards Wartberg on the bike path to the right of the railway. Taking the first right turn, continue until Wartberger Straße L554. Cross this and continue along the Nußbach stream, past a bridge onto a slight uphill field path leading to the Pogmunkl settlement. The country road L556 must be used for about 200m to the left as a crossing to the Güterweg Hochwimmer. Here, it goes right uphill past an alpaca enclosure. At a farm, the route turns left through a woodland path to the road towards Wimberg.

After the fire brigade equipment house, descend steeply left down the yellow-green marked Benediktweg towards Regengraben. After crossing the Nußbach, the path runs right over Stretzerstraße and immediately left again into the forest and woodland path Feyreggbach (recognizable by a barrier). From here, the tour stays on Neuhauserweg, which runs mostly parallel to Stretzer Bach. The creek must be crossed once, but due to the low water level and stones, it is no obstacle. The path is well-trodden and partly marked with wooden signposts. The path ends about 150m before the highest point "Weiß'n am Sattel" where you turn right. Here you find a snack station with typical homemade meals.

After enjoying the fantastic views in all directions (including a panoramic picture explaining the surrounding mountains), you head back the same way you came, but stay on the road for about 650m before descending straight down a woodland path. From here, the tour follows the Nußgeistweg K61. After the hollow path, turn left onto Schieferstraße and before the forest house, turn left down. After 300m, left into a woodland path to a forest road. Follow it until it leads to a side road after a small settlement. This path is well signposted. Continue left along Benediktweg to the center of Nußbach. Passing the church, go down a narrow street beside the Schwingenschuh carpentry towards the sports field. Straight across the street, past the Nußbach sports field, cross the Nußbach bridge uphill to the Güterweg Hochwimm. Here, you walk along a meadow path directly past the fence. Go right downhill again past the alpacas back along the same outbound route to Nußbach Station.

Equipment:

The required equipment always depends on the specific route and the weather conditions. Regarding food: this is very individual, and it is advisable to have more rather than less equipment and food with you. For a 5km round in the valley, less is needed than for a demanding route in the mountains. The weather can change quickly, and if you are not constantly on the move or need to take a break, warm clothing, for example, is very important.

We have a general checklist for you here:

  • Weather-appropriate running clothing for the respective season – weather forecast – region – altitude. This includes, among others:
    * a waterproof rain jacket
    * waterproof rain pants suitable for running
    * gloves and warm headwear (cap/headband/buff)
    * sunglasses + sunscreen + headwear for very warm days

  • Trail running shoes

  • Water bottles, soft flasks, or a hydration bladder with enough liquid for the respective route (possibly also salt tablets/magnesium)

  • Snacks for an energy boost in between: energy bars, gels, chocolate, trail mix,

  • Running backpack: ideally a trail running vest / a trail running backpack or a waist belt for short routes.

  • Drypack: to keep your valuables or extra clothes dry (optionally a small trash bag)

  • Emergency blanket

  • Small first aid kit. An Israeli bandage is, in my opinion, highly recommended: a wound and pressure bandage operable with one hand. Details can be found here.

  • Emergency whistle (often integrated into trail backpacks)

  • Mobile phone

  • Map material (online and/or offline)

  • E-Card or insurance card

  • Some cash

  • Grödel/spikes: these can be a great advantage in winter and icy conditions.

  • Folding poles for trail running

  • Headlamp
