Description:

Technically difficult circular route with 16.9 km and 732 m elevation gain in the shadow of the Schieferstein.

Directions:

We start the route at the Aschatal bus stop near the climbing wall at the roundabout. Through the houses of the Ascha settlement, it immediately goes up to the Auberg. Here we reach the Menweg. First on easy paths through the forest, then it goes very steeply uphill to the Schratlboden. Running is partially difficult here due to steep and rocky terrain, but also due to a lot of undergrowth, one has to make their way. We continue until after about 4 kilometers we reach the highest point of today's route. From here, we go downhill along a forest road, keeping right. We follow this road towards “Gscheid”. At this intersection we go straight ahead. Along the foothills of Größtenberg, we come to the “Hollnbuchner Siedlung”. From here, we continue for a few kilometers along the road until we reach the orchid meadow. Here we go down the meadow into the Hölleithen. We follow the Hölleitehnbach stream and after a few kilometers reach the Hölleiten waterfall. Through a small gorge we get back onto the road, which we follow until we return to our starting point.

Equipment:

The required equipment always depends on the respective route and the weather conditions. Regarding food: this is very individual, and it is advisable to have more rather than less in terms of equipment and nutrition. A 5 km round in the valley requires less than a demanding route in the mountains. The weather can change quickly, and if you are not constantly moving or need to take a break, warming clothing is of great importance, for example.

We have a general checklist here for you:

Weather-appropriate running clothing for the respective season – weather forecast – region – altitude. This includes, among others: * a waterproof rain jacket * waterproof rain pants suitable for running * gloves and warm headwear (cap/headband/tubular scarf) * sunglasses + sunscreen + headwear for very warm days

Trail running shoes

Water bottles, soft flasks, or a hydration bladder with sufficient fluid for the respective route (possibly also salt tablets/magnesium)

Snacks for an energy boost in between: energy bars, gels, chocolate, trail mix,

Running backpack: ideally a trail running vest / a trail running backpack or a waist belt for small routes.

Dry pack: so that your valuables or change of clothes stay dry (optionally a small trash bag)

Emergency blanket

Small first aid kit. An Israeli bandage is, in my opinion, highly recommended: it is a one-handed wound and pressure dressing. You can find details here.

Emergency whistle (often integrated into the trail backpack)

Mobile phone

Maps (online and/or offline)

E-Card or insurance card

Some cash

Microspikes/spikes: these can be of great advantage in winter and icy conditions.

Folding poles for trail running

Headlamp
