The Kalkalpen National Park is the most important "national forest park" in the Alps. Since its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Kalkalpen National Park has been part of a Europe-wide project to protect the last remaining primeval beech forests. These ancient forests with their diversity of habitats are a natural treasure. Primeval forest species, such as the Alpine longhorn beetle and the white-backed woodpecker, find a home here.
Our tour in the Reichraminger Hintergebirge takes us along the Buchensteig trail from Anzenbach to the Wilden Graben and back. We hike through two types of beech forest found in the national park with their typical flora and fauna.
