Description:
Don't miss the breathtaking view from the bridge in the Steyrdurchbruch into the 40 m deep gorge of the Steyr and to the Art Nouveau power plant at the start of your trip. From there, the romantic, flower-rich "Prälatenweg" (No. 15) leads to Altpernstein Castle.Directions:
From the parking lot, follow marking No. 15 on the gravel road and turn left after one house onto a narrow path that leads over the Tiefengraben into the valley floor. Continue through a flat forest valley into the Oberer Wienerweg district. Then continue on the romantic Prälatenweg to Altpernstein Castle. Return via the same route, but you can also descend to Micheldorf. Return to the starting point by bus.Tip:
Altpernstein Castle has become a landmark of Micheldorf. It was built around the 11th century and shows visitors once feared castle dungeons, a large knight's hall, and the baroque castle chapel with the Pernsteiner Madonna. The castle is located on rugged rock faces separated from the mountainside by a deep gorge. The former drawbridge, which was secured by two defensive towers, was replaced by a stone bridge. The fortress changed owners frequently throughout its history. Since 1630, the castle has been owned by Kremsmünster Abbey.Additional information:
