Losenstein Castle is one of the oldest castles in Upper Austria and the ancestral seat of the influential Losenstein dynasty.
Numerous seating areas as well as the large grassy castle courtyard with many shady old trees also provide a beautiful setting for a family picnic or a small campfire (a fire pit has been specially set up for this).
On the information boards, which are distributed throughout the castle grounds, the information is also prepared in a child-friendly manner and invites reading aloud and self-reading about the former Losenstein knights.
For those who would like to be guided, there is here the audio guide - simply download it to your phone and listen to the stories!
The ruins of Losenstein Castle are located on a rock in the middle of the village of Losenstein in Upper Austria's Ennstal, about 25 km south of the city of Steyr, and can be easily reached by car, train, or bus. The Ennstal cycling path also runs through the village - making a detour to the castle a worthwhile addition.
There are plenty of parking options at the foot of the castle mountain. From here, it only takes a few minutes to reach the castle at the top.
Address for the GPS: "Burgstraße 27, 4460 Losenstein" (Alpenvereinshaus; there are numerous marked parking spaces in front of and next to it)
