Leonstein, Oberösterreich, Österreich

SENSE FORGING ENSEMBLE SCHMIEDLEITHEN IN LEONSTEIN - Discover the life of the hammer lords!

The "Austrian Sickle Forging" was recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Austrian UNESCO Commission in 2014.

The Schmiedleithen is a lovingly preserved scythe forge ensemble from a time when the blacksmith hammers roared and the coveted blue scythe brought power and wealth to the hammer lords. Manor houses, factory buildings, servant houses, and gardens still remind us today of the life of the Black Counts of yore.

The idyllic EISENSTRASSEN thematic path, branching off from the Steyrtal bike path, leads you to an unexpected jewel. Beautiful manor houses, historical gardens, former blacksmith and servant houses, workshops, and the impressive landscape transport you to another world long thought forgotten – that of the BLACK COUNTS!

Thematic Path "In the Footsteps of the Black Counts": year-round cycling and hiking path | 2.5 or 4 km (also suitable for strollers)

Guided tour of Schmiedleithen 1 hour.

Exhibition "The Last Black Counts": In the "Kram," scythes were once manufactured for shipment all over the world. Today, an exhibition is dedicated to the life and work of the Zeitlinger family. Available for viewing upon request and reservation.
