Lamberg Castle

Lamberg Castle first appeared in historical documents as "Stirapurhc" in 980.
The mighty keep is still preserved from the original fortress. In the 11th century, the castle achieved its importance as the residence of the Otakars. In 1727 the entire complex was destroyed in a catastrophic fire in Steyr and rebuilt by the Counts of Lamberg as a representative Baroque castle.
Today, Lamberg Castle is home to the city of Steyr's registry office in the former castle chapel, an event location for weddings and celebrations, the Federal Police Headquarters, as well as rental flats.
The castle courtyard is open to the public all year round and is the venue for the Steyr Castle Concerts on Fridays during the summer months.
In July and August, the castle moat becomes an annual open-air stage for the Steyr Music Festival.
Exhibitions are held regularly in the Steyr Castle Gallery, and on Advent weekends the Schloss.Lamberg.Advent offers upmarket arts and crafts.
The Lamberg castle library and the state rooms can be visited by appointment with a guide.
