The pilgrimage from Vorderstoder to Schlierbach impressively shows the contrasts that the region on the edge of the Alps has to offer. It is characterized by rugged, impressive mountain ranges, crossed by the crystal-clear Steyr River and ends in gentle landscapes with far-reaching views. The stage first leads from the Klauser reservoir downstream of the Steyr river to the prominent pilgrimage site Frauenstein. We cross the Steyr at the impressive natural spectacle of the Steyr breakthrough. Later we pass past Altpernstein Castle to Schlierbach Monastery. We hike mainly on natural paths and gravel roads. The second part of the hike leads along ridges of hills through a beautiful landscape with a lot of views. The stage destination, the Cistercian monastery Schlierbach is known far beyond the country for its art treasures, glass art and organic cheese dairy. From the mighty Schlierbach Monastery, the pilgrimage trail leads over the chain of hills northeast of Kirchdorf an der Krems. This part is also the so-called Prelates' Way, passes Altpernstein Castle and descends to the Steyr River. There we experience the natural spectacle of the Steyr breakthrough and the power station built in Art Nouveau style. The pilgrimage site Frauenstein with its church can be seen from afar. The pilgrimage trail then leads upstream on the left bank of the Steyr to Klaus an der Pyhrnbahn. Forests, meadows, small villages, hamlets and scattered settlements alternate. Again and again one finds the view over the hills and the valley floor of the upper Kremstal.
