Short trail from Trattenbach to the Wendbach Valley
The start is at Trattenbach Train Station, which is located right at the entrance of the Trattenbach Valley. We run along the left side of the road, past probably the largest pocket knife, for 1.5 km to the entrance of the shady Wendbach Gorge. From here, the forest road begins, which we follow along the Wendbach stream up to km 3.6. A signpost reading “Kienberg Circular Route” shows us the junction we need to follow, because if you come to a forester's house which is right beside the stream on the right, you have gone too far and need to turn back.
From now on, it goes steeply for 1 km through the forest until you reach a pond. To the right we can clearly see the Hohe Dirn, a mountain that also offers some very beautiful trail running routes. Then the route continues along the asphalted Kienberg Road for the next 2.3 km to the Unterpermessmer house. Just behind it there is a path that leads us down directly to the parking lot of the Beisteinmauer climbing center. Then it continues down on the left along a meadow path above the center of Trattenbach until the path meets the Trattenbach road. Passing the Stübinger company, we run the last kilometer out until we meet the train station parking lot again.
Equipment:The required equipment always depends on the respective route and the weather conditions. Regarding food: This is very individual and it is advisable to have more rather than less with you for equipment and food. A 5km round in the valley requires less than a demanding route in the mountains. The weather can change quickly, and if you are not constantly moving or need to take a break, warm clothing is very important, for example.
