Description:

Loop route with a length of 15.2 km and 688 m elevation gain. Beautiful runnable and technically easy round between Ternberg and Losenstein.

Directions:

The starting point of the trail is the bus stop Badenbach about 1 km before Losenstein. A road leads us into the Wurmbachgraben. We run along the Wurmbach until after 1.8 km the road branches off to the left. Here we now head to the Großternberg Alm. After 3.2 km of running distance, we leave the road and turn right onto a path that leads us to the Alm. Once at the top, continue right towards Koglerhof.

Back on asphalt, we run down to the Jochberg chapel. Immediately behind it, it goes steeply uphill towards the Jochberg with a small summit cross. From here, we now go over beautiful trails uphill and downhill towards Hetzerhöhe and finally to Schönleitner Höhe with a large summit cross and benches to rest. We now run right, steeply down a path to Gasthof Pranzl in the Brunngraben, further on the road, and then turn right in the hollow onto the path that leads us up to the Jagdstein. Back at the Jochberg chapel, from here we run along the roads, past the beautiful Fatima chapel, and follow the road through the Wurmbachgraben to the starting point of our route.

Tip:

Possibilities to stop for refreshments at Koglerhof and Gasthof Pranzl (only by reservation)

Equipment:

The required equipment always depends on the respective route and the weather conditions. Regarding food: This is very individual, and it is advisable to have more rather than less when it comes to equipment and food. A 5 km round in the valley requires less than a demanding route in the mountains. The weather can change quickly, and if you are not constantly moving or need to take a break, warm clothing is very important, for example.

Here is a general checklist for you:

  • Weather-appropriate running clothes for the respective season – weather forecast – region – altitude. This includes, among other things:
    * a waterproof rain jacket
    * waterproof rain pants suitable for running
    * gloves and warm headgear (cap/headband/neck gaiter)
    * sunglasses + sunscreen + headgear for very warm days

  • Trail running shoes

  • Water bottles, soft flasks or a hydration bladder with sufficient fluid for the respective tour (possibly also salt tablets/magnesium)

  • Snacks for energy boost in between: energy bars, gels, chocolate, trail mix,

  • Running backpack: ideally a trail running vest / trail running backpack or a waist belt for small tours.

  • Dry pack: to keep your valuables or spare clothes dry (optional a small garbage bag)

  • Emergency blanket

  • Small first aid kit. An Israeli bandage is highly recommended in my opinion: it is a one-handed operable wound and compression bandage. Details can be found here.

  • Emergency whistle (often integrated in the trail backpack)

  • Mobile phone

  • Map material (online and/or offline)

  • E-Card or insurance card

  • Some cash

  • Crampons/spikes: these can be very useful in winter and icy conditions.

  • Folding poles for trail running

  • Headlamp
