From here, a gravel road leads moderately steeply up to Blachlboden, where a mountain lake was artificially created at the foot of the Scheiterkogel in 1998.
Looking back towards the Hochkar ski area, the Stumpfmauer and Gamsstein can be seen to the west and the Haller Mauern above the Scheinecksattel. The striking reddish rock, which is impermeable Liaskalke limestone, is the cause of small pools and channels and, above all, the lush flora. From Blachlboden, the now narrow path crosses horizontally to the east below small rocky outcrops to the wide karst depression of the Schrottleitneralm. A path leads diagonally left in several hairpin bends up a strip of meadow to a flat saddle north of the "Schmalzmauer". From the saddle, the "Teufl R.-Steig" leads down to the right through a fence gate in small hairpin bends in the direction of "Seelucken". Halfway up the slope, it crosses the scree fields below the rocky outcrops to the right and finally climbs gently on grassy ledges between weather spruces back out of the steep terrain. You are now back on the main ridge. The scenery is very attractive across some grassy knolls to a meadow saddle directly in front of the narrow, mountain pine-covered ridge edge of the "Geißhöhe". The trail immediately turns diagonally left up the north side of the Geißhöhe and finally crosses the steep, densely overgrown northern slope just below the summit ridge through mountain pine lanes. On the eastern ridge, small forest aisles open up again between old weather spruces, leading down to a flat meadow. You then cross the rock-strewn mountain meadows of the "Munsinplan", keeping to the right near the south-facing slopes along the remains of fences. You then descend briefly through a hollow characterized by rock carts and boulders and finally reach the forest saddle at the "Planstiege" just before the upswing of the Ringkogel. Here a path branches off to the left to the Schwarzalm, which you descend to a fork just before the Schwarzalmhütte.
Here you keep right down into the highly interesting, peculiar karst landscape of the "Kessel" (very confusing terrain!). The trail ends on a hill from where you reach the Wiesenalmhütte at 1,486 m above sea level via flower-filled meadows.
The Wiesenalm is the most remote and most scenic alpine pasture in the Hochkarmassiv. To the south-west lies the aforementioned huge karst area of the "Kessel" with enormous sinkholes, karst fields and karst lanes. From the hut, you follow the moderately steep mountain ridge downhill over a broad, flowery meadow ridge with views of the Dürrenstein. The path turns left down through a sparse forest over the small mountain saddle of the Hocheck to a fence gate. Then downhill on a path with many small hairpin bends through a sparse high forest to a forest road that leads directly to the beautifully situated Leckermoor. From the high moor, an asphalt road leads to the Hochreit plateau and past the Ablaß farm, which is well worth a visit, to the no less beautiful farms of Groß- and Kleinschöntal. A hiking trail branches off to the right here and takes you down to Göstling.
Tip:It is recommended to contact the Trail Info & Booking Center before booking.

In the middle of the nature and landscape conservation area not far from the high moor, on the Hochreit plateau at 832 m above sea level, lies the Ablaß old farmhouse.
On this 300 year old farm, the Zettel family runs a farm vacation accommodation and a farmhouse museum. On the first floor there are comfortably furnished parlors with tiled stoves. In the kitchen, the furnishings, the tiled stove from 1925 and the bread oven for the delicious wood-fired bread are still in full use. The museum rooms extend over the upper floor and attic. The living and sleeping facilities around 1900 are presented. The large number of tools and furnishings available on the farm show the craftsmanship of the past. There is also a butcher's oven in the attic, which is still in operation.
In summer you can visit the museum as part of a guided tour by prior arrangement!

Welcome to the hiking village of Göstling an der Ybbs - a vacation Eldorado in the Mostviertel region
The hiking village of Göstling is located on the Iron Road in the middle of the Göstling Alps (Hochkar 1808 m, Dürrenstein 1878 m) in the border triangle of Lower Austria, Styria and Upper Austria and belongs to the political district of Scheibbs. In the past, the village was characterized by the iron industry (Eisenwurzen) and agriculture, but today tourism dominates alongside agriculture and forestry. The most recent major boost for tourism in Göstling was the construction of the Ybbstaler Solebad, which is also home to the EMOTION LIFE CENTER, a fitness and therapy center.
Göstling is one of the most traditional vacation resorts in Lower Austria and, with the Hochkar, has the largest and most snow-sure ski area in Lower Austria: slopes of all levels of difficulty await here, from easy sunny slopes to steep mogul pistes. The cross-country ski trail in the Hochreit cross-country skiing center and the natural toboggan run round off the extensive winter offerings.
Summer vacation in Göstling
The summer offer in Göstling is diverse: The Mendlingtal experience, with one of the last functioning timber rafting areas in Central Europe, is one of the Top Excursion Destinations in Lower Austria. Hiking in the unspoiled nature of the Göstling Alps, 157 km of marked hiking trails, the scenic alpine regions (up to 1,880 m) with the managed alpine huts or along the themed cycle path into the Steinbachtal valley. The Leckermoos high moor and the Dürrenstein wilderness area invite you to discover, explore and marvel.
The hiking village of Göstling an der Ybbs offers many opportunities to experience an active adventure or to relax in the peaceful village idyll. You will find numerous attractive offers in summer for alpine hikes, themed hiking trails, via ferratas, cycling, hunting, fishing, paragliding, horse riding, high ropes course, tennis, swimming fun in the Ybbstal saltwater pool.
The Hochkaralm at 1,420 m above sea level is the starting point for summit hikes to Hochkar, Schwarzkogel or Häsing. It is located where skiers make their turns in winter.
Although the alpine hut does not offer any culinary delights, it is a great place to linger, enjoy the ringing of cowbells and fortify yourself with a snack.
Hiking with a great view: the Hochkar hiking paradise can be easily conquered via the Hochkarbahn to the pre-summit. The reliable 4-seater chairlift takes guests up to 1,770 meters above sea level. There, the fantastic view of the surrounding mountains up to the Großglockner awaits - and the most beautiful hiking routes for the whole family. Another highlight is the Hochkar 360° Skytour. Incidentally, the Hochkar has also been one of the "Best Austrian Mountain Lifts" since 2018.
Hochkar 360° Skytour: suspension bridge action & the best views
The 360° Skytour is located not far from the summit station on the Hochkar. The route leads across a 60-metre-long suspension bridge, offers wonderful panoramic views of the entire Eastern Alps and invites you to Lower Austria's highest vantage point: At the overhanging viewing platform, there is a dizzying 120-meter drop. The subsequent circular route continues over a bridge and a rocky path - with the best views of the Gesäuse and Dachstein.
Further hiking tips for the Hochkar alpine resort
Tickets for the cable car ride can be ordered in advance in the online ticket store.
The Hochkar Cave, also known as the Hochkar Shaft among experts, was formed in the Dachstein limestone of the Ötscher mountain range around 100,000 years ago. The shaft has a total length of over 650m and a height difference of 130m. These dimensions make it the fifth largest cave in Lower Austria and one of the deepest caves in the province.
The Hochkar Cave is currently closed!

Zustiege
Gipfel
