The Ennstal National Park Visitor Centre is located beneath the green waves that symbolise the National Park's sea of forests.

Exhibition Wonder World Forest Wilderness
At 20,825 hectares, the Kalkalpen National Park is the largest forest protection area in Austria. Here people allow for natural dynamics again. Wilderness returns and with it a wealth of species and a mixed forest of graceful beauty.
The heart of the exhibition is a diversity diorama that represents a piece of natural forest: on the one hand with large residents such as lynx, deer, badgers and foxes, but also with the birds of the forest down to the smallest insects in the leaves and under the tree bark. The eating marks of book printers & co are hidden under wooden flaps and you will learn the difference between wood eaters and wood eaters-eaters. You will find out how tall the tallest tree in the national park is and how old trees get when they grow as long as nature dictates.

Forest cinema - wilderness in the forest floor
Forest cinema - A fascinating nature film "On the way to forest wilderness" lets you immerse yourself in the fairytale landscape of the Reichraminger Hintergebirge: with the black stork, bear and lynx as the main characters. In the open-air area is the “Wilderness in the Ground” experience box, which shows the hidden world three centimeters below the surface of the ground. They stand face to face with ground animals that have been enlarged hundreds of times: predatory stone runners, peaceful earthworms, woodlice, sapsuckers - everything to attack if anyone dares.

National Park Shop
Here you can find books to browse about the National Park, the surrounding area and nature, hiking maps for orientation and support in finding the most beautiful hiking tours, postcards, regional products, souvenirs and games for children for research and experimentation that remind you of special experiences in the Kalkalpen National Park.

Forest workshop
There is a particularly attractive offer for school classes and youth groups.
Children and young people can be active themselves in the National Park Forest Workshop. Modern microscopes, specimens and a variety of natural materials are available for research and experimentation. Under the expert supervision of national park supervisors, children and young people learn about our most important tree species in a playful way, make nesting boxes and musical instruments out of wood and discover mysterious organisms in the soil and dead wood under the microscope.
