Micheldorf

A temple complex was already built on the Geogenberg in Celtic times, and the Romans also left their mark. Parts of the excavations carried out in 1953 are still visible behind the sanctuary.

Today, the Georgenberg church is a popular destination for excursions. Every two years (end of April), the Georgiritt takes place. Riders dressed in splendid, ancient costumes and decorated horses parade through the village up the Georgenberg.

From the 16th to the middle of the 19th century Micheldorf experienced a heyday due to the importance of the scythe industry. Numerous buildings still recall this period. Some of them can be explored on the signposted "Sengsschmiedroas" theme trail (duration approx. 2 hours).

Another landmark of the village is Altpernstein Castle. It was built in the 11th century. With great attention to detail, Altpernstein Castle was renovated from 2018 to 2020 and now also offers the possibility of spending the night in the castle. The castle dungeon, the castle chapel and the terrace with a magnificent view are worth seeing.

Micheldorf also offers a very diverse range of sports and leisure activities: the alpine swimming pool, hiking trails, running and walking arena, equestrian centre with indoor riding arena, gliding field, fitness centre, sauna, leisure park with bowling alleys and tennis courts. When the snow conditions are good, there is a cross-country ski trail (approx. 14 km) that connects the villages of Micheldorf and Kirchdorf.

Nature lovers will get their money's worth with a visit to the Himmelreich biotope (especially worthwhile in May and June). The path through the biotope is suitable for prams and wheelchairs and well signposted to discover the plant world.
