In Trattenbach near Ternberg, the production of Feitel has a centuries-old tradition.
The museum village represents a 500-year history. Starting from the information center, visitors can explore four original knife maker houses along a 1.5 km path, three of which are workshops, and one is designed as a museum. The path/street can be traversed on foot, by bike, or by car.
Once, 17 hammers were unmistakably at work here, producing 45 different models through laborious steps. Today, you can discover the witnesses of this glorious past along 1.5 kilometers and feel the power of fire, water, wood, and steel that have shaped this valley! Walk through the production process from one vibrant workshop to the next and, to conclude, create your own knife.
Some of the sites are wheelchair accessible.
The “Trattenbach Pocket Knife Production” was recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Austrian
UNESCO Commission in 2015.
They immortalized thousands of hearts in tree bark, sliced the snack bacon, and decorated hazelnut sticks: The pocket knives (from “fold”) were an indispensable tool. In Trattenbach near Ternberg, the knife production has a centuries-old tradition.
Of course, it is a highlight when guests can assemble a knife themselves, which is possible with the admission fee. The knife itself is not free.
At the end of the theme trail, families with children can also experience the water playground.
