Insider tip
Description: Trail run with a length of 9.8 km and an ascent of approx. 350 metres, to a popular excursion destination in the Ramingtal valley with top refreshment stops.
Directions: We start the tour at the bus stop near the church in the centre of Maria Neustift. Directly opposite, we walk along the Freithof main road, first on asphalt, then a short detour through a small wooded area until we reach a car park for hikers. Here we run up to the left along field paths until we come to a gravel path. Great panoramic views of the Alpine foothills and the Mostviertel region open up along the way. We quickly gain altitude and reach the Freithofberg-Alm, which is open during the summer months. Shortly after the alpine pasture, we find the summit cross of the Freihofberg at 958 metres above sea level. We run back to the alpine pasture and keep to the right, running down the fort road. Back on the same path, we can choose between the panoramic path we came on or the tarmac road, which we choose to get back to our starting point.
Tip: If you have the opportunity, be sure to stop off at Gasthaus Schaupp (right next to the church in the town centre).
Equipment: The required equipment always depends on the particular tour and the weather conditions. Regarding the food: This is very individual and it is recommended to have rather too much than too little with equipment and food. For a 5km round in the valley you need less than for a demanding tour in the mountains. The weather can change quickly and if you are not constantly on the move or need to take a break, for example, warming clothing is of great importance.
We have a general checklist for you here:
